Half of Traditional Hedge Funds Engage in Crypto

The “Global Crypto Hedge Fund Report” revealed that 47% of hedge funds are involved in digital assets, up from 29% in 2023 and 37% in 2022. Among funds that have already invested in cryptocurrency, 67% plan to maintain their current level of investment while the rest aim to increase their investments by the end of 2024.

The report also found that many hedge funds initially traded tokens on the spot market, but they are now adopting more complex strategies. In 2024, 58% of funds trade derivatives, up from 38% in 2023. The proportion of funds trading in the spot market has dropped from a peak of 69% last year to 25% this year. James Delaney, director of asset management supervision at AIMA, said, “The results of this year’s report show that confidence has been steadily recovering over the past year. The regulatory clarity that is starting to emerge around the world is really boosting confidence in this asset class.”
