Uniswap Labs Unveils Unichain

Uniswap Labs has recently launched a new layer-2 blockchain network called Unichain, based on the OP Stack technology from Optimism. Unichain operates on Ethereum’s network, designed to increase the speed, affordability, liquidity and interoperability of decentralized finance (DeFi). According to the launch plans, Unichain will operate initially as a testnet before evolving to play a significant role in the Optimism Superchain. Some of the features that stand out for Unichain are faster transaction speed of about 250 milliseconds per block and low cost, resulting in near-instantaneous user experience. Other important features include reduced opportunities for exploiting maximal extractable value, and enhanced cross-chain liquidity due to the Optimism Superchain. Uniswap also announced advanced security features for Unichain including a Trusted Execution Environment and community validation network that participates by staking UNI tokens. Finally, to make cross-chain interactions easy, Uniswap has proposed a new ERC 7683 standard, streamlining synchronization with other layer-2 networks. Uniswap’s goal with Unichain is to enhance DeFi ecosystem by making it faster, secure, and more user-friendly.
