OpenAI Claims Elon Musk Trying to Undermine Them for xAI Benefit

On October 10, BlockBeats news reported that Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, was involved in a lawsuit filed against OpenAI. OpenAI had previously filed a motion requesting that the lawsuit be dismissed, and alleged that Musk was intentionally trying to harass the company, thereby giving himself an advantage with OpenAI’s competitor, xAI. Musk filed his original lawsuit in February 2022, accusing OpenAI of deviating from its “non-profit” origins and in March, Musk dropped this lawsuit but later filed another separate suit.

In his new suit filed in August, Musk claimed that OpenAI had not been true to its “non-profit” beginnings and accused CEO Sam Altman of defrauding the Tesla CEO and breaching his duties. Originally, the aim of the project developed by OpenAI was Artificial General Intelligence for the benefit of mankind; however, the project morphed into a for-profit business influenced largely by major stakeholder, Microsoft. OpenAI now requested that the presiding judge fully dismiss the case. They declared that Musk had no legal grounds on which to file the lawsuit, claiming the court actions to be part of Musk’s scheme to dominate OpenAI for the benefit of his venture xAI.
