Microsoft is currently being asked to consider investing in Bitcoin (BTC) by one of its shareholders, the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR). They have submitted a proposal for voting during Microsoft’s annual shareholder meeting on December 10th. Microsoft, however, believes that such an assessment is not necessary, and maintains that they already have strong processes in place for managing and diversifying their corporate treasury for shareholder benefit.
They have acknowledged the proposed topic by stating that they have examined Bitcoin and other possible cryptocurrencies for investment in the past, and will continue to monitor trends. Microsoft’s Board of Directors recommended that shareholders vote against the proposal in the upcoming meeting. The NCPPR’s request for the assessment is focused on shareholder value, as they believe that adding Bitcoin to the balance sheet could protect Microsoft’s assets from inflation and potentially outperform other investments.
