Meta (Facebook) recently announced that it will make its AI models, called Llama, available to US defense agencies and related companies. The goal is to support national security and strengthen America’s position in the AI competition. Llama is a series of large-scale language models designed to understand and generate texts, making them useful for tasks like data analysis, translation, and content generation.
Meta’s decision comes amid growing competition from countries like China, which has also been using AI models for defense purposes. Meta believes that sharing Llama will help US open source models succeed against those from China and other countries.
