FTX Executives Sentenced: Ellisons Sentence and Community Response

Caroline Ellison, the former girlfriend of Sam Bankman-Fried, has been sentenced to two years in prison for her role in the collapse of FTX. She will serve her sentence at the federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut. Ellison pleaded guilty to money laundering, securities and commodities fraud, and computer fraud last year and will be under supervision for another three years after her release.

She was also fined $11 billion for her actions. Ellison’s sentence has been controversial within the cryptocurrency community, with some experts and ex-FTX employees expressing their disagreement. Ryan Salame, former CEO of FTX Digital Markets, wrote on Twitter that he has found evidence of things Ellison lied about during her testimony, while former FTX engineering director Nishad Singh received a prison sentence with credit for time served in pre-trial detention.

Ellison’s two-year sentence is notably lighter than Sam Bankman-Fried’s 25-year prison sentence for his role in the FTX collapse.
