On October 6th, news broke that Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, generously donated 100 ETH (approximately $240,000) to support the legal defense fund of Tornado Cash developer, Roman Storm. This marks Vitalik’s third contribution to the fund.
As stated on the Defend Roman Storm page, the legal defense fund has received a total of 148 unique payments, amounting to over 327 ETH valued at around $785,000.
Despite facing sanctions from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and legal pressure from U.S. officials, deposits at the Tornado Cash mixer surged to approximately $1.9 billion in the first half of 2024. This represents a 50% increase compared to the total deposits from the previous year.
