Vitalik Buterin Sets the Record Straight on ETH Sales

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently clarified his stance on selling Ethereum (ETH), addressing speculation about his transactions. Buterin emphasized that he hasn’t sold any ETH for personal gain since 2018. Instead, he has been directing ETH sales towards supporting projects that he finds valuable, both within the Ethereum ecosystem and for broader charitable efforts.

ETH Sales for a Cause, Not for Profit

In a recent statement, Buterin highlighted his commitment to using his ETH holdings for the greater good. He explained that when people notice his transactions, such as large transfers of ETH to exchanges, it’s often misinterpreted as him cashing out for personal profit. However, he assured the community that these funds are typically used to support various charitable initiatives, including biomedical research and development.

Buterin’s transparency comes in the wake of ongoing discussions in the crypto community about the motives behind significant ETH movements. In a previous conversation on Warpcast, Buterin mentioned that if anyone spots articles claiming “Vitalik sends XXX ETH to [exchange],” it’s likely not for personal profit but rather for donations or funding other important projects. The recipient, usually a nonprofit or similar organization, then sells the ETH to cover operational expenses.
