US government notifies Bitfinex hack victims

The US government has recently been given the green light by a United States district judge to proceed with an alternative notification procedure in regards to the funds recovered from the Bitfinex hack.

This decision comes after Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan pleaded guilty to laundering the proceeds of the 2016 hack, one of the largest thefts of Bitcoin in history. The judge’s approval allows the US to post a notification on the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) large cases website, out of caution for potential claimants. However, the US government is not aware of any individual who qualifies as a victim of the hack, aside from perhaps Bitfinex itself.
