UK Court Sentences Australian National Craig Wright to Suspended Jail Time for Contempt of Court Over False Bitcoin Claims

Australian national Craig Wright, who falsely claimed to be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, received a one-year suspended sentence in the UK for contempt of court. In a December 19th virtual hearing, Judge James Mellor ruled that Wright had violated a court order by filing lawsuits against Bitcoin (BTC) developers.

The sentence includes a £145,000 fine and suspension for two years. This decision came from five counts of contempt of court related to lawsuits filed by Wright despite being ordered not to do so. The case was brought forward by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), which accused Wright of breaching a court order to cease legal action against companies based on his false claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

In March, a UK court ruled that Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto, and in July, Wright essentially admitted this on his website following the ruling.
