SSI, a new AI company founded by the former chief scientist of OpenAI, has completed a $1 billion financing round, with a16z and others participating

According to BlockBeats, on September 5, Reuters reported that Safe Superintelligence (SSI), a security AI startup co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, former chief scientist of OpenAI, announced the completion of a $1 billion financing, with a valuation of $5 billion. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel and NFDG.

SSI currently has 10 employees and plans to use the funds to acquire computing power and recruit top talent. SSI co-founder and CEO Daniel Gross said the company will focus on directly developing secure superintelligence and plans to conduct two years of research and development before launching the product to market. Sutskever serves as chief scientist, Daniel Levy is chief scientist, and Gross is responsible for computing power and financing.

Sutskever emphasized that SSI will take a different approach to AI scaling than OpenAI. SSI plans to work with cloud service providers and chip companies to meet its computing needs, but has not yet decided on specific partners.
