Republican candidate Deaton advocates for crypto against traditional banking in Senate race

U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts: Warren leads Deaton by over 23 points

Republican candidate John Deaton, and Senator Elizabeth Warren clashed in their first debate for the Senate seat representing Massachusetts, just weeks before the U.S. elections. Deaton expressed support for Bitcoin as an alternative to traditional financial institutions, highlighting its potential to help those who are unbanked.

He criticised Warren’s Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act, arguing it unfairly targets the cryptocurrency industry and disproportionately favors the working class. Warren, in contrast, questioned Deaton’s credibility and expressed concerns about the largely unregulated cryptocurrency market, advocating for it to follow the same rules as banks and other financial institutions to protect against terrorism and criminal activities.

Despite their differences, both candidates acknowledged that traditional banking has failed many Americans.
