Kraken Exchange: Masked Scammer Fails Video ID Check

A man tried to hack into a Kraken account by disguising himself with a Halloween-style rubber mask during a video call with a support agent. However, the attacker failed as the agent noticed the mask didn’t match the victim’s description and the ID presented was suspiciously Photoshopped. This highlights that even poorly executed attempts to deceive can potentially gain access to personal information.

Kraken Chief Security Officer Nick Percoco suggests deploying two-factor authentication and using FIDO2 and passkeys for added security.
