IRS Seizes Bitcoin, Smithsonian Includes MacBook Pro in Collection

The 2019 MacBook Pro used by the IRS to trace and seize $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin stolen from crypto exchange Bitfinex will be displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Numismatic Collection. The laptop is seen as a representation of the shift in public

knowledge of Bitcoin’s traceability. The case of the stolen Bitcoin and its subsequent recovery by the IRS helped reshape our understanding of cryptocurrency as a pseudo-anonymous form of exchange, rather than completely anonymous as previously thought.
