xAI, an artificial intelligence company, has launched its API, granting developers access to the Grok series of foundation models. This API is compatible with OpenAI’s and Anthropic’s, making it easier for developers to migrate and use Grok’s capabilities in their applications. The public beta release includes the grok-beta model with a context length of 128,000 tokens and support for function calling and system prompts.
A multi-modal version of the grok-beta, capable of ingesting images, will be available next week. xAI is offering $25 of free API credits per month to beta users until the end of the year, and those with prepaid credits will receive an equivalent amount of free monthly credits. The API is fully compatible with OpenAI’s and Anthropic’s, and comprehensive documentation is available for developers to guide them through the integration process.
