The Russian government has not announced any plans to launch a state-backed cryptocurrency, and experts say that the emails are part of a larger trend of cybercriminals using cryptocurrency as a way to scam unsuspecting victims.
“Cryptocurrency is a hot topic right now, and scammers are taking advantage of that by using it as a way to lure people into fraudulent investment schemes,” said a spokesperson for Kaspersky Lab.
The cybersecurity firm is urging internet users to be cautious when receiving unsolicited emails about cryptocurrency investments and to always do their research before investing any money.
“Don’t be fooled by promises of quick profits or guaranteed returns,” the spokesperson added. “Always be skeptical and do your due diligence before investing in anything, especially when it comes to cryptocurrency.”
