Crypto Scam: Keystone Resident Loses Thousands After Impersonated Law Enforcement Officials Threaten Arrest for Missed Jury Duty

A person in Keystone, Colorado lost over $6,000 in Bitcoin to a scam where criminals pretended to be law enforcement officials and claimed the person had missed jury duty. They told the person to pay in Bitcoin to avoid arrest. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says this is a common scam and that similar cases have been reported in other parts of Colorado.

The FBI has also warned about these types of scams. The money lost in these scams is usually not recovered, as it is difficult to trace once it has been sent through crypto transactions.
