The Digital Chamber of Commerce asked the US Office of Government Ethics to allow federal employees to own small amounts of cryptocurrency. Currently, federal workers are not allowed to have any crypto, including stablecoins. The Digital Chamber argued that allowing limited crypto ownership would not create conflicts of interest.
Instead, it would align with policies that allow government employees to hold other financial assets in restricted amounts. They believe this change would give employees more explicit guidelines while supporting equity in ethical standards. The group also noted that by supporting USD-backed stablecoins, the US can extend its dollar dominance, increase dollar access in emerging markets, and reinforce national security during geopolitical uncertainty.
