The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a case to seize roughly $16 million in cryptocurrency held in a Binance account. The tokens, which include Internet Computer (ICP), Avalanche (AVAX), Ripple (XRP), Cardano (ADA), and Solana (SOL), are allegedly connected to bribes authorized by Sam Bankman-Fried.
The case complicates recovery efforts by law enforcement, as the value of the assets has more than doubled since their initial transfers. Authorities claim the account showed suspicious transaction patterns, including “nearly daily” stablecoin and Bitcoin deposits that were “quickly converted” to other cryptos through over-the-counter trades.
