Australian computer scientist Craig Wright has suffered a major setback in his quest to assert control over the bitcoin blockchain project. A U.K. judge has ruled that the file format of the blockchain cannot be protected by any form of copyright law, effectively ending Wright’s attempt to claim ownership of the technology. Wright, who has previously claimed to be the pseudonymous creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, argued that as the inventor of the asset, he should be allowed to block any operation of bitcoin and all systems that derived from it. However, the judge’s ruling has put an end to Wright’s legal challenge, and the blockchain remains open and accessible to all.
