COP29: Private Jet Attendees Face Backlash at Climate Conference

The COP29 climate change conference in Azerbaijan has been criticized for the high number of private planes used by delegates to arrive at the event. Over 65 private jets landed at the airport in the first week of the conference, double the amount of the previous year. Environmental activists argue that private jets are 5-14 times more polluting per passenger than commercial airplanes and 50 times more polluting than trains.

This has led to accusations of hypocrisy amongst the delegates, who are in Azerbaijan to discuss climate change. However, some aviation experts have defended the use of private jets, stating that they are more understandable for high-ranking individuals than commercial flights.
