The president and CEO of Canadian cryptocurrency company WonderFi, Dean Skurka, was kidnapped and forced to pay a ransom demand of CAD$1 million during rush hour in downtown Toronto. He was later released in Centennial Park in Etobicoke, and said that client funds and data remain safe and weren’t impacted by the kidnapping.
This incident highlights the growing risk of violence against crypto holders as the price of Bitcoin rises, with this being the 171st case of violence being used to target crypto holders.
