Athlete NFT platform Blockasset has announced its expansion beyond Solana to Chiliz Chain 2.0, the new Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible Layer-1 blockchain from sports fan token firm Chiliz. The expansion will be accompanied by an equity investment from Chiliz, which owns the Socios fan token and rewards platform. Socios works with over 170 partners, including teams across the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLS, as well as top soccer leagues worldwide. The investment comes through Chiliz Labs, the $50 million incubator that Chiliz launched with VC firm Jump Crypto to support blockchain projects in sports.
Blockasset currently offers NFTs from more than 40 athletes, including former English soccer star Wayne Rooney, NHL veteran Alex Ovechkin, New Zealand rugby player Jonah Lomu, and UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal. The platform’s expansion to Chiliz Chain 2.0 will allow it to tap into a wider audience and offer more opportunities for athletes to monetize their personal brands.
The move comes as the NFT market continues to grow, with more athletes and sports organizations exploring the potential of blockchain technology. Blockasset’s expansion to Chiliz Chain 2.0 is expected to further fuel this growth and provide new opportunities for fans to engage with their favorite athletes and teams. The platform’s integration with Socios will also allow fans to earn rewards and access exclusive content through the use of fan tokens.
Blockasset’s expansion to Chiliz Chain 2.0 follows the recent announcement of its partnership with livestreaming provider Theta Network, which will allow fans to earn NFTs by watching live sports events. The partnership is expected to further enhance the fan experience and provide new opportunities for athletes and sports organizations to engage with their audiences.
