Athlete NFT platform Blockasset has announced that it will be leaving Solana and moving to Chiliz Chain 2.0, the Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible Layer-1 blockchain from sports fan token firm Chiliz. The move comes with an equity investment from Chiliz, which owns the Socios fan token and rewards platform. Socios works with more than 170 partners including teams across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, and top soccer leagues around the world. The investment comes through Chiliz Labs, the $50 million incubator Chiliz launched with VC firm Jump Crypto to support blockchain projects in sports.

Blockasset has more than 40 athletes offering NFTs through its platform, including former English soccer star Wayne Rooney, NHL star Alex Ovechkin, New Zealand rugby player Jonah Lomu, and UFC star Jorge Masvidal. The move to Chiliz Chain 2.0 is expected to provide Blockasset with greater scalability and flexibility, as well as access to a wider range of sports fans and enthusiasts.

The move to Chiliz Chain 2.0 is part of a broader trend in the sports industry towards blockchain technology and NFTs. Livestreaming provider FanFest and media gamification platform LiveLike have also recently moved onto Chiliz Chain 2.0, highlighting the growing interest in blockchain-based solutions for sports and entertainment.

Blockasset’s move to Chiliz Chain 2.0 is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, with the platform set to continue offering NFTs from some of the biggest names in sports. The move is likely to further cement Chiliz’s position as a leading player in the sports blockchain space, and could pave the way for further partnerships and collaborations in the future.
