El Salvador, which adopted Bitcoin as legal currency in 2021, has found that a large majority of its population do not support the use of the cryptocurrency. A survey conducted by the University of Francisco Gavidia in San Salvador showed that only 7.5% of the population use cryptocurrencies for transactions, while 92% do not.
Additionally, only 1.3% of respondents think Bitcoin should be the focus of the country’s future. Despite this, 58% of the population strongly support the current president, Nayib Bukele, who has consistently backed Bitcoin adoption.
