On November 6, Bernie Moreno, a former car dealer and far-right Republican, defeated Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in an unexpected win. Moreno, a political newcomer, had been trailing in polls but managed to secure his win. This victory secured Republicans enough seats to control the U.S. Senate, with the exception of a surprise Democratic victory in another contest.
Moreno’s win also marked the end of the last Democrat holding statewide office in Ohio, which is now a reliably red state.
