The founder of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, is set to have his story turned into a film. Apple Studios and A24 are reportedly co-developing and co-producing a feature film based on Michael Lewis’ book, Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon. The book, released in October 2023, follows Bankman-Fried’s rise and fall, coinciding with the start of his high-profile criminal trial in New York.
Lena Dunham is set to write the screenplay, and the film aims to explore Bankman-Fried’s controversial journey and the impact his actions had on millions of investors who lost billions of dollars when FTX collapsed. Other projects based on the FTX saga are also in the works. Fortune and Unrealistic Ideas are planning a project focusing on Bankman-Fried’s relationship with former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao.
FTX filed for bankruptcy on November 11, 2022, setting off a wave of legal actions and media coverage. Several key figures in the scandal have already been sentenced to prison, while others await their sentences. In December 2022, FTX settled a lawsuit with Bybit, agreeing to a $228 million settlement.
