An Examination of Cryptocurrency Taxation in Taiwan: Legislation and Tax Strategies

Taiwan’s Finance Ministry and Taxation officials are discussing cryptocurrency taxation in the country. The Ministry of Finance will further discuss verifying the issue of income tax on profits from related transactions. The Director of Taxation stated that cryptocu

rrencies are digital assets, not currencies, so income from related transactions should be taxed as “property transaction income.” Additionally, the IRS has tools to investigate digital commodity transactions and check for under-reporting or non-reporting of income.
