The fake airdrop posts closely mimicked the legitimate announcement for EigenLayer’s actual Season 2 stakedrop, released in September, and whose claim period had already concluded.
A prominent restaking protocol, EigenLayer, experienced a hacking attack on its official X account, which was used to spread misinformation about an airdrop. The developer also emphasized the importance of verifying any communication and ensuring that users were engaging with the legitimate EigenLayer domain. The hackers created fake posts and links to try and lure users into engaging with them, a tactic that has become increasingly common in recent times.
Eigen Labs immediately alerted users to the breach and urged them to avoid interacting with the posts and links.
