South Korean electronics giant LG Electronics has filed a patent for a blockchain-enabled smart TV with NFT trading capabilities. The patent, which was filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), describes a system that would allow users to buy, sell, and trade NFTs directly from their smart TVs.

The system would use a blockchain-based ledger to track the ownership of NFTs. Users would be able to browse and purchase NFTs from a marketplace that is integrated into the smart TV. Once an NFT is purchased, it would be stored in the user’s digital wallet on the blockchain.

The patent also describes a way for users to display their NFTs on their smart TVs. Users would be able to create a personalized gallery of their NFTs, which could be displayed on the TV’s home screen or in a dedicated NFT app.

LG Electronics is not the first company to file a patent for a blockchain-enabled smart TV. In 2021, Samsung filed a patent for a similar system. However, LG Electronics’ patent is the first to specifically mention NFT trading capabilities.

The development of blockchain-enabled smart TVs is a sign of the growing interest in NFTs. NFTs are digital assets that are stored on a blockchain and can represent anything from art to music to in-game items. They have become increasingly popular in recent years, with some NFTs selling for millions of dollars.

The integration of NFTs into smart TVs could make them more accessible to a wider audience. Smart TVs are already in millions of homes, and the addition of NFT trading capabilities could make them a new platform for the sale and purchase of NFTs.

It is still too early to say when or if LG Electronics will release a blockchain-enabled smart TV. However, the company’s patent filing is a sign that it is at least considering the possibility. If LG Electronics does release a blockchain-enabled smart TV, it could help to further legitimize the NFT market and make NFTs more accessible to a wider audience.
