How Ethereum Main Network’s Beacon Chain Faced a 30-Minute Challenge

The Ethereum main network experienced a problem with its beacon chain that lasted for about half an hour, leaving developers scrambling to determine the cause of the issue. While the chain has stabilized, developers have identified areas where state caching could be improved.

State Caching

History suggests that a client has experienced a bug, and a patch will be required to fix it. The MEV boost, which stands for “maximum extractable value,” is also a potential suspect in causing the network issue. The MEV boost refers to the additional income that miners can earn by inserting and reordering transactions in the blockchain.

Superphiz, a blockchain developer, tweeted about the incident, saying that a client had experienced a bug and that a patch would be necessary. While developers are still investigating the cause of the network issue, it is believed that the MEV boost may have played a role.

@terencechain tweeted “We have identified areas where state caching could be improved. Given the chain has stabilized, as a staker / node operator, there’s no action required moment”

Improving state caching could also help to prevent similar issues in the future. State caching refers to the process of storing data in memory, which can help to speed up the execution of smart contracts and reduce the load on the network.
