J. Christopher Giancarlo, also known as “Crypto Dad,” is not considering replacing Gary Gensler as head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Giancarlo, a former Chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), denied reports that he was seeking the agency’s top job. He has also rejected rumors about taking on some crypto role within the U.S.
Treasury Department. The speculation comes amid reports of a shake-up at the SEC following Donald Trump’s re-election and questions about Gensler’s position as chairman. Giancarlo, who served as a CFTC commissioner from 2014 to 2019, earned the nickname “Crypto Dad” due to his support of crypto innovation while in office.
He co-founded the Digital Dollar Project in 2020 to promote discussions on digital monetary innovations.
