In the 2024 US Elections, Republicans gained majority support, leading Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong to call for “sensible crypto legislation” in the US. Armstrong highlighted five key points in an op-ed, emphasizing that crypto emerged as a critical issue in many races and supported pro-crypto candidates.
He specifically mentioned Bernie Moreno’s win over Sherrod Brown in Ohio, suggesting that Brown’s anti-crypto stance may have cost him the election. Armstrong also noted a shift in Congress, with 257 pro-crypto candidates in the House, many elected due to grassroots support from StandWithCrypto advocates.
Armstrong defended the industry’s efforts, pointing out that more Republicans voted for the FIT21 bill in the House. He stated that the industry’s support from both Coinbase and A16Z would prepare it for the next electoral cycle. Armstrong believes the election results convey a broader message of support for economic freedom and limited government, and he is hopeful that clearer regulations will encourage the development of the crypto industry in the US and other G20 nations.
